Valentines for Kids!

I realize I am late sharing the kids’ Valentines for their friends but I was hurriedly finishing them the day before, of course!

Cayson gave these car Valentines to the boys in his class.

I let him drive one of his Hot Wheels through paint to decorate the back.

He gave these hair bow Valentines to the girls.

Taryn gave bags of Teddy Grahams to the boys in her CDO class with this heart attached. So simple and easy!

She also gave the girls hair bows. I just attached them to the hearts.

These are in absolutely no way original ideas! I got the original ideas from Family Fun and then found these adorable printables here. I typed my own out and printed everything on cardstock and cut it to size. The hearts were cut out using my Cricut.

Valentine’s Day Dish Towel

I picked up a handful of these towels at Dollar Tree with hopes of appliquéing them. I wish I had more! This is my last one. :( I just did a simple design with the ric rac and hearts. I used some iron on transfer (lightweight) to adhere the hearts before I stitched them on.

Funny thing, I got the heart fabric at the thrift store. It was REALLY cheap… and brand new!

I saw this post on Martha Stewart to make these adorable heart hot pads. Sooooo cute!

Okay, Pottery Barn Kids has the most adorable vintage Valentine’s Day line… we all know how much I love vintage Valentine’s, right?

Are you decorating for Valentine’s Day? I pulled my decorations down today and I think one or two Valentine banners are in order! I cannot believe I don’t have one!

I’m linking this post to Ashley’s fab V-day link up! Check out the other posts there!

Peeks of Valentine’s Day

I’ve failed this year on my Valentine decor… I love the colors of Valentine’s Day but just haven’t had a lot of time/motivation to get things spruced up for Valentine’s Day. I have a few things out… I’d hoped to make a cute V-day banner but  that hasn’t happened yet.

I thought I’d show some cute little things… the puppy is my son’s from his first Valentine’s Day… he’s extremely attached to it! I made the tutu yesterday for Miss Priss. The outfit is from Target though I think it’s going to be too big. I ordered the hair bow here…. she made it specifically for Miss Priss.  IMG_6835 IMG_6833

I did get these dishtowels on clearance last year at Target. Score!

I usually hang this on our front door but thought I’d hang it on a mirror for a change. I’m loving it! I hung it from ribbon and tied it to the hanger on the back. IMG_6847 I have a few other things out… but I’m lazy and didn’t get pics of it all. I wish I had more done! I think Valentine’s Day is really a fun holiday for kids… I want my kids to remember it being special… and it brightens up the dreary month!

Peanut Butter Balls

Here's the recipe for everyone to make for their honeys for Valentine's Day! Sorry, it's taken me so long to post. I've been having Internet issues and was out of town yesterday (I got to shop in the city!!!) After a 40 minute phone call, I got my Internet issues resolved! Yea!

Peanut Butter Balls

Ingredients

2 cups creamy peanut butter
1 stick of butter, softened
1 16 oz package of powdered sugar
2 1/2 - 3 cups Rice Krispie cereal (use as much depending on how crispy you want them)
approximately one bag of chocolate chips
Shortening (optional)

Directions:

Mix peanut butter and butter until smooth. Gradually add in powdered sugar. Once it is light and fluffy, pour in cereal and mix well.

Roll into balls using your hands and place on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet. I used my cookie scoop and it made this go much quicker! If you choose, you can stick sucker sticks in. I normally don't mess with this step. Chill for 30 minutes.

Extra Step for using sucker sticks! Melt chocolate however you choose, stirring frequently. I add a tablespoon or so of shortening to my chocolate. Remove each sucker stick and dip the tip in chocolate and the reinsert it into the ball. Chill again to harden the chocolate. This helps keep the balls from falling off the stick.

Melt chocolate (or remelt if you did the above step). I add a tablespoon or so of shortening to my chocolate. Dip the balls into the chocolate. Skewers and toothpicks can be helpful for this step. Place balls back on lined cookie sheet. Sprinkle with goodies and chill until hardened. I store this in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Your Valentine will love you FOREVER if you make these!!!!!!!!!

Sneak Peak #2

....chocolate & peanut butter!!!!!

Last minute V-day stuff

I made this Valentine block last weekend using an old piece of scrap wood I salvaged from a nearby home, some adorable vintage-looking paper, a wood heart I glittered and some ribbon. I painted the block red and then used Mod Podge to adhere the paper to the block. I inked the edges to distress it and then put about 4 layers of Mod Podge on top. Painted and glittered the heart and tied a ribbon. Just a little V-day cheer for the bathroom.

I also did these hearts over the weekend. I cut hearts out of cardboard and adhered the paper using Mod Podge. I am planning on attaching ribbon to hang them up.

I have a few vintage Valentines that I picked up at the antique store. I thought they were cute!

Hugs & Kisses!

I threw together a plaque to celebrate Valentine's Day. I used some last year left-over V-day papers from Target's Dollar Spot selection, some wooden hearts that I glittered X & O's onto, and the chipboard X & O came from this year's Dollar Spot selection. It's not the greatest looking in the world, but it was made with things that I had, so pretty much FREE!

I've been searching the web for Valentine's Day inspiration and have found so many goodies! I thought I'd share my finds with you gals! Hopefully all my links work, but if you have issues, let me know!

Family Fun has so many fun craft ideas for Valentine's Day. I'm especially fond of their handmade Valentine selection! I'm planning on making this for DH... minus the pink paper! He is very attached to his iPod (the best gift I ever game him!). Since I love vintage, had to share this one! Martha Stewart has some way CAUTE things on her site, of course! How about these bon-bon filled hearts?
This wreath looks pretty easy to make yet such impact! Love it!
I printed this craft off last year to file... I can't wait till C is old enough to enjoy some crafts!

How beautiful is this?

I'd love to have this sitting on my dresser!
I want this - and the vase!!!!!
This looks like something the kids would have fun with! There's even a printable/savable template for the cobweb Valentine!

This heart garland looks like fun!
Ashley at Domestic Fashionista has some way cute Valentine's Day things! Be sure to check her out. Here are a couple of my favs from her decor. I am totally thinking about doing a V-day tree since I snagged a mini white one up at Michael's.

I currently don't sew but found this adorable love birds pin cushion on etsy. The seller is Feltmates.
WhimsyHouse on etsy has this adorable brooch! I love all the beautiful felted wool items on etsy.
One of my FAVE finds of the day! This Hugs & Kisses garland! It's to die for!

Hope you enjoyed some Valentine's Day inspiration! I know I'm motivated to get into gear and decorate and celebrate the holiday of Love. (My husband would be rolling his eyes at this. :)

Love Birds to share

I made some fun little love birds to cheer up our house and spread some Valentine's Day love. :) You can find the directions here. I inked the edges to give them a little distressing. Aren't they sweet? I used left-over Valentine paper from last year's Target Dollar Spot section.

I also hung some on my kitchen valance. I used jute twine to hang them and then used straight pins to pin the twine to the back of the valance. Quick and easy.

The tot likes his own bird that he can "fly" around the house. :)
